When Sylvia and Abraham first reached out to me with their Colorado winter elopement plans, one of the first things they told me was that the scenery they envision most is snow covered mountains and trees. Sylvia also said “we want our day to be magical and truly an adventure.” These two were coming to Colorado from Texas, and despite never having hiked in the snow, they were totally excited for a snowy adventure! There was a recent snow fall in the mountains to help deliver the winter wonderland of their dreams.

They shared handwritten vows at one of my favorite locations in Rocky Mountain National Park for their elopement ceremony. 3M Curve, one of the designated ceremony locations in Rocky Mountain National Park, is perfect for winter elopement ceremonies. This location is truly stunning, and offers some of the best mountain views in the park. We had a super sunny, blue bird Colorado day and experienced really high winds. These two were total troopers handling the cold!

After exploring 3M Curve, we drove to the trailhead to begin our hike to a frozen alpine lake. We took stops along the way to admire the gorgeous snow covered evergreen trees. When we arrived to Dream Lake, the view completely took my breath away, along with the huge gusts of winds. We experienced the kind of weather that makes you burst out laughing because you can’t help but giggle at the craziness of the situation! As always, it was well worth the adventure and battling the winds because you cannot beat those gorgeous snow-capped mountain views. And the feeling of grabbing your partner’s hand and running around over a frozen lake, laughing your heart out? The absolute best memories for a Colorado winter elopement!

Rocky Mountain National Park Elopement

Rocky Mountain National Park is one of the best areas in Colorado for a winter elopement. Typically most of the roads stay open, the snowy scenery is stunning, and the best bonus? Very low crowds! You can hike through some of the most popular areas of the park and barely see another person. Sylvia and Abraham, like many couples, tell me that they’re more private and want their ceremony to be intimate. Self-solemnizing elopements are so wonderful for couples who want privacy and to be in an environment where they’re free to express their emotions with no worries about anyone, or anything else.
