Alisha and Codey had their beautiful Rocky Mountain National Park elopement on a gorgeous, sunny July day at Sprague Lake. Summer time in Colorado is one of the most STUNNING seasons to witness the mountains! Everything is vibrant green, there’s little wildflowers all around, and the air feels crisp and amazing.
This was a true elopement with just the two of them, and I can’t even begin to explain how honored I am when I’m the only witness to a couples ceremony. Colorado is amazing because there is NO officiant necessary. You can self-solemnize, and the process is super easy! I truly feel so grateful for these two for letting me be a part of their day, and allowing me to capture some incredibly sweet moments.
It really is the simplest of ceremonies that I love the most. And I definitely do NOT use simple in a negative way. But there’s something about just showing up to a gorgeous lake with a view of the mountains in your wedding attire, sharing your personal heartfelt vows, and sealing the deal!
Alisha changed into her dress in the bathroom by the lake, so her and Codey could do a first look together. I’ve said this a bunch, but I LOVE capturing first looks because seeing the reactions are always amazing to witness. I think with most couples who do this, it allows the ability for you to just breathe together while taking some of the nerves away.
we went over to another one of my favorite areas in Rocky Mountain National Park. Because of all the snow the park got from previous months, the river run off was INCREDIBLE. Not only do you have this gorgeous open field with stunning mountain views, but a beautiful river running through. The water passing through the rocks provided a calming presence that I just loved listening to.
Then, they officially signed their marriage license, shared some whiskey together, and had their own little cake to eat. This is what I love SOOO much about elopements. Just doing whatever it is that you want to do, with no pressure from anybody else. Do you want to have a picnic with your new spouse with some of the best scenery in the world? GO FOR IT!
I’m forever thankful for sweet couples like these two. Rocky Mountain National Park is one of my favorite location suggestions for couples looking to elope in Colorado. There are designated spots you must say your vows within the park, with 3M Curve and Sprague Lake being my favorite spots. Thankfully, the park has SO many incredible scenic viewpoints and hikes, so we can always go on an epic adventure together afterwards. If you’re thinking of having a Rocky Mountain National Park elopement, I’d love to help plan your dream day! Enjoy a peak into their beautiful elopement day. xo

3. YOU ARE SO TALENTED!!
Ahhh thank you SO MUCH! You should definitely visit the Colorado Mountains! 🙂
Gorgeous images and what a beautiful day and location… and omg, can I have a piece of that cake? But just to understand, there was no officiant there, right? So they just read their vows and then had the ceremony at city hall maybe later?
Thank you so much! And yes, there was no officiant there because Colorado doesn’t require one. But no, they didn’t have to have a ceremony at city hall. They just had to fill out the marriage certificate + proper paperwork (which is super easy) and then turn it back in to the county to make it official! 🙂
Great capture! That’s interesting that Colorado doesn’t require an officiant. I’m sure a lot of couples love that, especially with elopements! Beautiful work!
Yes, it’s amazing that an officiant isn’t needed! Especially for ceremonies where a little hiking is required. 🙂 Thank you!
